Whey protein is proven to improve insulin sensitivity more than any other protein source, but common additives like Acesulfame and Aspartame cause insulin secretion much like sugar, and that diminishes the whey’s ability to increase insulin sensitivity. The other major reason to choose a “clean” protein powder is to ensure that the protein you’re looking to gain digests quickly and effectively – many of the lower quality protein powders are so littered with additives that your body doesn’t digest them well, and definitely not in that post-WOD 30 minute window you’re looking to make nutritional gains in.
if you are drinking even 'diet sodas' (especially those with caffeine) you could be 'short circuiting' your diet . you NEED 6-8 eight ounce glasses of WATER (or fruit juice for part of it) EVERY DAY . but you can drink up to 12 eight ounce glasses and 'be fine' . drink 'too much' and you can drown yourself through drinking, but only if you are drinking 2 or more GALLONS a day. It's HARDER to lose weight the older you get, but if you start 'eating more and eating better' and pay attention to your 'fluid intake' and get more 'rounded' exercise, you'll be able to take the pounds off 'reasonably' and keep them off longer .
A lot of that is determined by muscle mass and muscle tone. If you get stronger and more "in shape", you'll burn more calories even when you aren't doing anything. Then we can exercise to burn MORE calories. The only way to really loose weight is to use more calories than we consume. If you go for a starvation diet, you just loose muscle mass, which slows down the rate of calorie consumption. The best way to loose weight is to eat a good, well balanced diet, with plenty of protein and low sugar/low fat.
What do you think? thanks, Doug ANSWER: It does seem counter intuitive, but believe it or not, that is standard, and science-based advice for post workout nutrition. Post workout nutrition has been well researched and there is evidence that taking in simple carbs - usually glucose or dextrose with maltodextrin (plus whey protein) in the form of a post workout drink - is an ideal post workout recovery "meal." The part about "waiting" 30-45 minutes is the part that is questionable, but that may have been a simple oversight.
Since I'm coming close to the end of my rookie season here on T NATION, I figured I'd give you a short, practical summary of what we've covered so far regarding fat loss nutrition. Great to have those memories – I reckon some of the older versions of blenders etc are better than the modern ones too! In another study, women who increased protein intake to 30% of calories ended up eating 441 fewer calories per day. They also lost 11 pounds in 12 weeks, just by adding more protein to their diet ( 11 ). But protein doesn’t just help you lose… it can also help prevent you from gaining weight in the first place. In one study, just a modest increase in protein from 15% of calories to 18% of calories reduced the amount of fat people regained after weight loss by 50% ( 12 ).

"Larger studies are clearly needed to confirm this extremely modest weight-loss effect," he tells WebMD. Nutritionist and American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Leslie Bonci, MPH-RD, says even if the findings are confirmed the clinical implications are slight. "Obviously people are looking for ways to increase metabolism, but this is an very, very, small effect," she tells WebMD. "We are talking about just a few calories a day." Bonci says the standard weight-loss plan dictates encouraging people to drink more water stems from the belief that the liquid fills the gut to make people feel fuller.
